The names are on the ballot. Here is how the Sun-Reporter Editorial Board marked ours.
Tom Steyer for Governor — the climate man who put his own money against his own conscience, and won enough fights to deserve the office he has been chasing since 2018.
Rob Bonta for Attorney General, who has prosecuted the cases the office is supposed to prosecute.
Shirley Weber for Secretary of State, who carried the reparations task force across the line when others would not touch it.
Malia Cohen back to the Controller’s office, where the math is honest.
Elena Kounalakis for Treasurer.
Richard Barrera for State Superintendent of Public Instruction — a school board man, not a consultant.
Steven Bradford for Insurance Commissioner, who knows the difference between a homeowner’s premium and a press release.
Connie Chan to hold the District 11 House seat. Lateefah Simon to hold District 12.
The ballot is a piece of paper. It is also the only quiet, legal way a community speaks back to the people running it. The Sun-Reporter has been making these calls a long time. We have been wrong. We will be wrong again. We make them anyway.
Mark it. Mail it. Or stand in line on June 2 and do it the old way.
The full slate runs next issue.
