The Sun-Reporter Publishing Company (“the Sun-Reporter,” “we,” “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit thesunreporter.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
Information you give us. When you submit a subscription request, contact form, or classified ad inquiry, we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address. We use this information only to respond to your request, process your subscription, and deliver the newspaper.
Payment information. Digital subscriptions are purchased through Stripe, a secure third-party payment processor. When you subscribe, Stripe collects your name, email address, and payment card details directly. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe’s handling of your information is governed by the Stripe Privacy Policy. We receive your name, email address, and subscription status so we can manage your subscription and contact you about it.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect basic technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. We use Jetpack (by Automattic) and standard web server logs for this purpose. This data helps us understand which stories our readers value and keep the site running reliably.
Cookies. Our site uses cookies for basic functionality, such as remembering your preferences, and for aggregate analytics. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; most of the site will still work.
How We Use Your Information
- To fulfill subscription, advertising, and classified orders
- To respond to questions and correspondence
- To send subscription receipts, renewal notices, and newsletters to subscribers who have requested them
- To measure readership and improve the site
What We Don’t Do
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share subscriber lists with advertisers. We share information only with service providers who help us operate the site, process payments, and deliver the paper (for example, our web host, email service, and payment processor), and only to the extent needed to do that work, or when required by law.
Advertising and Third-Party Links
Our site displays advertising from sponsors, and our stories link to outside websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. We encourage you to review their policies.
Your Choices and Rights
You may ask us at any time to see, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop sending you email. Digital subscribers may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we have collected and the right to request its deletion. To make a request, email Sunreporter@sbcglobal.net or call (415) 671-1000. For digital subscription questions, email evanwardcityhall@gmail.com.
Children
Our site is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
